2. 1. Visit Edinburgh Castle

   On top of a hill in Edinburgh city centre sits the majestically fortified castle which has for many centuries over look the city. This world famous visitor attraction has dominated the skyline of Edinburgh and has become the symbol of Scotland’s independence. The castle topped more than 1.2 million visitors in the year of 2011 with many guided tours, ticketed events and history to be seen all year round.

3. 2. Glasgow Burrell Collection

   This award winning museum in the south side of Glasgow hosts a world-famous collection gifted to Glasgow by Sir William Burrell. Visitors to the museum can see art objects from Iraq, Egypt, Greece and Italy. The museum hosts a large collection of tapestries, furniture, textiles, ceramics, stained glass and sculptures from medieval Europe and drawings from 15th-19th century Europe.

4. 3. Edinburgh Fringe/Tatoo - EVENT (WHOLE OF AUGUST EACH YEAR)

   The Edinburgh Festival Fringe stands to be the world’s largest arts festival with the set theme of performing arts, theatre and comedy at its heart. The “Fringe” as it is more normally referred to, is hosted across the whole of Edinburgh during the month of August each year. The festival has topped up to 34,265 performances across 265 venues across the city in August 2009 alone. The festival attracts a world audience with ticket sale in the regions of 2 million for the month alone, with many celebrities attending the event including performances from Ricky Gervais, Bill Bailey, Allan Bennett, Neil Simon etc.

   Edinburgh Tattoo runs alongside Fringe during the month of August and stands for a military performance from the Royal Scots (The Royal Regiment), Royal Highland Fusiliers (Princess, Margaret's Own Glasgow and Ayrshire Regiment), King's Own Scottish Borderers, Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment), The Highlanders (Seaforth, Gordons and Camerons), Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (Princess Louise's).

5. 4. Play Golf at St Andrews golf club

   The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews is one of the oldest and most prestigious golf clubs in the world (the oldest being the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers at Muirfield). It is based in St Andrews, Fife, Scotland, and is regarded as the worldwide "Home of Golf". St Andrews features The Royal and Ancient Golf Club which is split between the original ancient golf course and a more up to date course which was built more recently.

6. 5 Blair Atholl Horse Trials - EVENT (SECOND WEEK OF AUGUST EACH YEAR)

   Blair Castle International Horse Trials is a three-day extravaganza which features over a weekend in August each year. The three day sets its self around top class international horse riding with features show jumping, Highland Pony Championships, Hunter Show, National Pony Society Scotland Finals, Pony Club Games, Ex Racehorses and Ridden Clydesdale Championships.

7. 6. T in the Park - EVENT (SECOND WEEKEND OF JULY EACH YEAR)

   Is a major music event which takes place every July outside Kinross in Perthshire. The music event pulls in a estimated crowd of 85,000 with many successful artist from around the world including The Verve Stereophonics, KT Tunstall, Newton Faulkner, Rage Against the Machine, The Fratellis, The Kooks, Sharleen Spiteri, R.E.M..... playing at the event.

8. 7. Queens View outside Pitlochry

   Queen's view is a location which overlooks the valley looking on to Loch Tummel and has become a tourist attraction for many years. Access to Queens’s view can be found from the west of Pitlochry. The cliff which overlooks Loch Tummel was names by Queen Victoria as the Queens view in the 19th century.

9. 8. Aberdeen Art Gallery

   Aberdeen Art Gallery is the main visual arts exhibition space in the city of Aberdeen in Scotland. It was opened in 1885, in a building designed by Alexander Marshall Mackenzie. The gallery hosts a permanent collection of work from a range of Post-Impressionists and the Scottish Colourists as well as applied arts and crafts.

10. 9. Visit Culzean Castle and Gardens

    Culzean is one of Scotland's best loved Castles, offering something for everyone to enjoy. Situated on the South Ayrshire coast, just off the A719, Culzean Castle is located 12 miles south of Ayr and 4 miles west of Maybole. The castle is run and maintained by the National Trust for Scotland which is open to the public all year round.

11. 10. Culloden Battlefield

    Visiting Culloden the last hand-to-hand battle fought on British soil takes on a whole new meaning with the opening of an exciting new visitor centre and interactive exhibition. The battlefield has recently restored to its original glory with funding from the Scottish Government.
